The Prairie Oaks School of Music offers a variety of music lessons and other classes to fit the needs of all aspiring musicians.

Class Descriptions             

Private Traditional Lessons            (all ages)                                        Private Lessons are available for students of all ages on all major instruments.  Click here for a list of the instruments we offer.  Weekly lessons are available for 30, 45, or 60 minutes, and students spend this time studying the instrument of their choice one-on-one with our qualified instructors.  All weekly private students receive a private lesson and a weekly group enrichment class.

Private Suzuki Lessons                   (ages 3 and up)                                 PreTwinkler Lessons are for students ages 3-4 who are just beginning an instrument.  Included in the fee is a 20 minute Private lesson and a 30 minute group enrichment class.

Beginner Lessons are for students ages 5 and up who are just beginning an instrument.  Included in the fee is a 30 minute private lesson and a 30 minute group lesson.           

Intermediate Lessons are for students needing a longer lesson upon the recommendation of the private teacher.  Included in the fee is a 45 minute private lesson, 60 minutes of group enrichment classes.                  

Advanced Lessons are for students working on advanced repertoire.  Included is a 60 minute private lesson, and 60 minutes of group enrichment classes.

Choirs (Grades K-12, Stevens Point Only)                                                

Children's Choir (K-3) A great introduction for children to choral singing.  Works on ensemble skils, singing technique, musicianship and independence.  Maximum of 20 students.  Meets weekly for 45 minutes, 5:00 - 5:45 on Mondays.                                                
Elementary Choir (Grades 4-7) A great opportunity for students who enjoy singing in a large ensemble to become more independent singers, further develop vocal technique, and strengthen musical development.  Maximum of 25 students.  Meets weekly for 60 minutes, 5:30 - 6:30 on Tuesdays.

Teen Choir (Grades 8-12) An advanced choir for students with experience from public school music, church choir, or other vocal background.  This choir will delve deeply into traditional choral works, both classical and contemporary, challenging vocalists to sing a capella and consistently with harmony of 4 or more parts.  Maximum of 30 students.  Meets weekly for 60 minutes, 7:00 - 8:00 on Tuesdays.

Enrichment Classes                                                           Suzuki                                                    Preschool Music and Movement is for children ages 3-5 preparing to take private music lessons or students of that age already enrolled in private lessons.  An engaging comprehensive music class that explores music basics like movement, beat, rhythm, melody and listening in a nurturing group environment.  Meets for 30 minutes.  4:30 - 5:00 on Mondays in Marshfield, and 5:00 - 5:30 on Wednesday in Stevens Point.

Creative Musicianship Classes (Grades 4 & Up, Stevens Point only) are included automatically for middle school and high school aged students enrolled in the POSM and help to develop theory, aural, improvising, and composing skills.  Creative Musicianship Classes are available to students not taking lessons through the POSM as well.  Meets weekly for 30 minutes or 60 minutes.  Grades 4 - 8 meet 6:30 - 7:00 on Tuesdays.  Grades 9 - 12 meet 6:30 - 7:30 on Mondays.                

Suzuki Group Classes are included automatically for Suzuki students enrolled in the POSM and work on repetoire, technique, as well as new pieces and student compositions.  Suzuki Group Classes are available to students not taking lessons through the POSM as well.

Drama Classes (Grades 1-12, Stevens Point Only)        

Drama I (Grades 1-3) A fun, low-pressure introduction to drama and stage performance.  This class will help students develop skills in acting through the use of body awareness games, improvisation, and speech technique, culminating in a semesterly performance.  Maximum of 15 students.  Meets weekly for 60 minutes, 4:00 - 5:00 on Mondays.                                                 
Drama II (Grades 4-6) An intermediate class designed to challenge students to become better actors by performers through short skits, body awareness, improvisation and memorization, culminating in a semestelry performance.  Maximum of 20 students.  Meets weekly for 60 minutes, 4:00 - 5:00 on Tuesdays.

Drama III (Grades 7 & up) This advanced class will help hone the techniques of stage acting through a mixture of exercises and short plays.  The class is open to anyone of proper age regardless of experience, and will culminate in a semesterly performance.  Maximum of 20 students.  Meets weekly for 90 minutes, 4:00 - 5:30 on Thursdays.
