The mission of the School of Performing Arts is to provide the highest quality music education possible in a nurturing and community-centered environment in order to equip students of all ages with the skills necessary to enjoy and appreciate music for their entire lives.

100 Day Practice Challenge

Congratulations to all the winners of the Fall Practicing Competition! You can read about them and their success later in the newsletter. We are pleased to announce our next school wide practicing event, the 100 Day Practice Challenge. The 100 Day Practice Challenge will start on Saturday February 11, 2012 and end on Saturday May 20, 2012. All School of Performing Arts students currently enrolled in private lessons are eligible for participation. To complete the challenge, students must either practice their instrument, listen to teacher-approved music, or work on music theory given by their teacher for 100 Days in a row from the challenge start date. Students who complete the challenge will turn in their Challenge sheets (which will be handed out by your studio teacher or downloaded from the web) and be recognized and awarded a prize at the Spring Recital. Remember that the purpose of all our practicing events is to motivate students to find practice time each day to keep moving forward in their musical progress. Good luck to everyone and we hope to see you on stage in the spring for successfully completing the challenge!

Announcing the Winners of the Fall Practicing Competition!

In September we launched the Fall Practicing Competition, a contest open to all private students in the School of Performing Arts. To win students simply had to practice more hours than any other student who entered. Each location had 3 winners. 1st place winners received a trophy and a $50 gift certificate, 2nd place winners received a trophy and a $30 gift certificate, and 3rd place winners received a trophy and a $20 gift certificate. Congratulations to all the winners!

Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra (CWSO) Concerts

The Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, Central Wisconsin's premiere symphony orchestra, continues its fantastic 63rd season February 25th and 26th with the 3rd concert of the season, American Classics. About the program:

Close the door on the winter winds and warm up with Chaise Lounge, an award-winning band comprised of five of the top jazz musicians from the Washington D.C. area with the soft, luminous vocals of Marilyn Older. They will join with the CWSO in a performance featuring sparkling arrangements of standards and original tunes. "ChaiseLounge performs a blend of music that sounds like it was recorded at Capitol Recording Studios in 1962 and somehow found its way to today's pop charts." Also on the program are classic American favorites by Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin, including West Side Story and selections from Porgy and Bess.

Come to hear School of Performing Arts directors Heidi Corcoran and Aaron Marx perform on cello and violin, respectively. Bring a program or ticket stub to your next lesson and we will send you a special prize for doing so! Concerts are: Saturday, December 3rd at 7:30pm & Sunday, December 4th at 1:00 & 4:00 pm (Sunday afternoon is a family-friendly matinee). All performances are at Sentry Theater in Stevens Point.
